Invitation to the Press to attend the Critical Care of Southern Africa’s 2017 Annual Congress

Invitation to the Press to attend the Critical Care of Southern Africa’s Annual Congress

To be held from 19-22 October, 2017 at Sun City, North West Province

The world’s finest minds in the field of critical care medicine will gather together at the Critical Care Society of Southern Africa’s Annual Congress in October to share and deliberate on the advances being made in the perpetually evolving world of ICU.

This important congress, set to take place from the 19-22 October 2017 at Sun City, will include state of the art lectures, debates and original research presentations.  Emphasis will be placed on the importance of the Precision Medicine Paradigm in prevention and treatment of disease. This concept recognizes the heterogeneity of patients especially relating to their individual risk factors which predispose them to disease or influence the likelihood of poor outcomes.

In recognition of the growing importance of the multi-disciplinary approach to caring for the critically ill, a key focus of the event will be on gaining efficiencies through the selection and implementation of appropriate investigations, monitoring strategies and therapy.

Renowned academics and experts from South Africa and as far afield as the UK, Germany, Italy, Australia, Hong Kong, Hungary, Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands and the USA will address delegates on clinical trials and breakthrough publications from 2017 as well as other key issues facing the critical care professional, including:

  • Sepsis and invasive monitoring
  • The applicability of novel therapies and new devices at our disposal
  • Respiratory and renal medicine
  • Critical Care in the private sector
  • Ethical and medico-legal considerations in critical care
  • Antibiotic stewardship
  • Paediatric ICU
  • Personalised physiological medicine for the critically ill patient
  • The future of ICU: influencing healthcare for patients and providers
  • ECMO considerations in the South African context
  • Precision medicine in sepsis
  • Patient assisted suicide in the SA context
  • Obesity: monitoring and management
  • Nutritional management of the burns patient in the ICU
  • Nutritional approach in the obese critically ill patient
  • Microbiome: Implications in critical care
  • Rehabilitation and mobilisation in PICU
  • Burnout in the Health Professions: Strategies for Prevention
